This does make sense. In particular, tools is indeed a big overlap that I suppose both of those communities would get a lot of questions about. Similarly, an artist who is skilled at carpentry might want to make a candelabra or whatever and then they might need assistance from an electrician for how to install the wiring, how to do soldering etc.

Also with the low site traffic, I think broader communities are the way to go and only split them up in several in case they do get a lot of traffic in the future. The Codidact category system is also handy and could be used here, if we don't want to dump every kind of question in a general Q&A.

I like this suggestion too. I think we need broader, not narrower, categories, so long as they're coherent to the people who will use them. Would "DIY" capture the arts & crafts aspect, or do we need a different name? (If people like this merger idea, we can make a separate meta post, tagging A&C, about the name.)

Monica Cellio‭ In the original Arts and Crafts proposal, I also included the bullet point "Digital art". I think that would be the only aspect which wouldn't totally fit the DIY name. But up to now, there haven't been any questions about this. Personally I wouldn't mind removing this point from the proposal. When putting the list together, I envisioned that people might want to ask about the composition about their digital drawing etc. However most of the questions I can think of wouldn't be specific to digital art and could easily be asked "medium-neutral".
