Descriptions

Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

Description

Currently, users cannot ask questions when a relevant community does not exist, as meta.codidact.com/posts/295888 demonstrates. Consequently, I propose a dedicated community for all of these, where questions can be posted, until a dedicated community exists.

When a new topic is posted about, moderators would tag it with its topic. When a significant amount of posts in a spcific tag exists, users would be more incentivised to propose a dedicated community for it, because the evidence of its popularity would exist, as would an existent user-base, on Codidact.

Special Features

Would this community want additional categories, new post types, changes to site settings

All that would be required is the ability to mark questions as duplicates across sites, [1] so that asking all questions here would not be incentivised.

Questions asked here would always be marked as duplicates of questions asked in dedicated sites, and/or transferred there when a relevant site is created. github.com/codidact/qpixel/issues/1539#issue-2875851876 explains that transferral should already be possible.

Overlaps

None, inherently so, except when a new community is created. However, that is a temporary state, as aforestated.

Isn't this what the Incubator category does?

I think the point with the incubator to begin with is to identify groups/categories of questions that would make a decent community. Not to allow any question about anything, which I'm not sure if it was ever a goal of Codidact. The goal was rather always "community-driven Q&A". Maybe this is something that should be brought up for discussion at the Proposals meta.
