Descriptions

Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

Recycle

Site Name

Recycling

I opted for this name because everybody knows what it is and gets the idea. It is also easy to think of a logo for it :) However, you're supposed to try to first reduce, then reuse, and only after recycle. Hopefully site culture can reinforce that notion, to counteract the site name perpetuating a common misconception (namely that recycling is the first thing you should try).

Description

Discussion and practical advice about reducing, reusing and recycling of waste (R3).

Topics

Topics covered would include:

  • Practical advice on how to R3 specific items
  • General questions about waste management practices

Exclusions

These topics or types of posts would be out of scope:

  • Questions that do not pertain to the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste

Special Features

None at the moment.

Overlaps

Potential overlaps:

  • Home improvement
  • Great Outdoors
  • Personal finance (if we create one)
  • Other hobby sites, since with each hobby there is inevitably a question of what to do with old hobby items
  • Any sites focused on environmentalism
  • Any sites focused on anti-consumerism

While there's an argument for staying broad and making this a tag on a more general environmentalism site, I think it's better to keep it specific. Most of the questions on this site would be "what do I do with XYZ waste". An environmentalism site (or other overlaps) might find these tedious and spammy.

Then again, we could also be a section on an environmentalism or anti-consumerism site. 🤷
