Incubator Q&A

Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

Would someone with highly specialized bat-like wings be capable of flight or gliding abilities
  • So I was designing this superhuman criminal whose largely just a common burgler. As I was designing her and her powers, eventually I thought of the idea of batwings on the back largely because I thought they would look neat, but that said I wasn't sure about giving her the power of flight as I was planning on making her largely terrestrial with some climbing abilities combined with high jumping abilites. That said I decided that while they appear as batwings, they would mostly be designed differently: the patagium would extend only to the mid section of the middle phalangeal and would have no uropatagium (especially because she has no tail) or plagio patagium, while having sharp ten centimeter nails at the tips, with the wings themselves being 16ft 5" when fully stretched out. With this design I figured they would functions less like traditional wings and more like an extra set of large, oversized, webbed hands, allowing her to grasp items with precision, allow for climbing capabilities and for slash and stabbing abilities on opponents, and offering no true flight or gliding abilities. That said I began to think of the design of the wings and size ratio of the character and I now wonder if they could at least be used for gliding if not at least parachuting tactics to slow her fall and if they could how would they function or if I actually was right initiallythat they'd incapable carrying her weight in any form of flight or gliding.
  • To summarize;
  • -These wings have no uropatagium (the membrane that connects the the legs to the tails in bats)
  • -These wings have no plagio patagium (the membrane that arms to the legs in bats)
  • - The patagium membrane between the pinky, middle, and index fingers and thumbs would go only towards the mid section of the middle phalangeal (the middle joint of the finger)
  • - The wings are 16ft 5" in full length
  • - The fingers are tipped with sharp, 10 centimeter claw nails
  • - The character in question is 5ft 5" in height and has an extra power of peak human physiology
