Incubator Q&A

Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

What would be the potential of cellular cybernetics and it be more or less practical than nanoscopic robotics Question

+2
−1

So as I was thinking about characterizations I started thinking about cybernetics, and I started to wonder about the concept of cellular cybernetics and what the possibilities of such technology would be. Now I know basic stuff such as maybe being able to regenerate and possibly form machines but that's usually with nanoscopic robots such as nanites and such, so it made me wonder if it would be worth the trouble to graft cybernetic technology onto individual cells vs just injecting nanoscopic robots into the bloodstream.

What I'm looking for is what could be the potential possibilities for adding cybernetics machinery to a single cell and doing the same process to every cell in the body, what would be the possible ramifications of such technology, and frankly would it even be necessary since the only possibilities I see with nanoscopic cybernetics could also be achieved through nanoscopic robotics as previously stated or even just regular cybernetic implants.

Note: I only put the tag of worldbuilding because I couldn't find a tag for science fiction or cybernetic technology, if anyone knows the proper tags for a question like this I would appreciate it.

Candidate for a "workshop"/"exploration" category?

Melchizadek ‭ wrote 19 days ago

Ok that works thank you, actually I read your post I didn't know if exploration was setup as a category yet or not

Monica Cellio‭ wrote 19 days ago

The launched site would have the category, but we don't have all the categories here on Proposals. You could edit in a note at the end saying this is intended for that category.

Melchizadek ‭ wrote 19 days ago

Ok well I used those tags and it looked like they worked

trichoplax‭ wrote 18 days ago

This question now has the tag "exploration", but if the proposed workshop category is going to have Wiki posts (so no answers, just links to more specific questions as they arise), could we use Articles rather than Questions while we're in Proposals? Alternatively, do we need the ability to create Wiki posts in the Incubator Q&A category?

Monica Cellio‭ wrote 18 days ago

trichoplax‭ this post feels more like the workshop/brainstorming idea of the category, and for that I think Q&A is better as it allows people to respond to the proposition. There's also an idea floating around of collecting worldbuilding resources, which would work best with a wiki. I'm happy to add the wiki post type to the incubator, but I think this particular case wants to be Q&A.

trichoplax‭ wrote 17 days ago

Oh good point.

Letting post authors choose post type sounds great.

Melchizadek ‭ wrote 16 days ago

trichoplax‭ yeah honestly I do see your point, it's just with my case I just wanted to know what the appropriate tag was and first time around I was allowed to use technology or science fiction as a tag, don't know why technology was ok this time but still. If you think these tags are appropriate then good, if not than just let me know I will correct it. Also that's a good question since if you have a link to somewhere that could answer the question I don't see why that couldn't be used.

trichoplax‭ wrote 16 days ago

I didn't see any problem with the tags. Did the system stop you using one or did someone ask you to not use one?

Melchizadek ‭ wrote 16 days ago

trichoplax‭ Originally it seemed like when I tried to use technology there wasn't an already existing category for it for some reason and originally wouldn't let me create it, not for some reason it'd fine so I really don't know the story. I also typed up tags such as cybernetics, science fiction, etc, none of which seem to exist on this site. Looking back it could be because I had science fiction as a tag so it just didn't like that but I really have no idea.

trichoplax‭ wrote 16 days ago

You should be able to create any new tag you like here. The only possible problems I can think of are:

  • Maybe the ability to create tags wasn't available to everyone the first time you tried (I think it is available to everyone now).
  • Maybe you included a character that's not allowed in a tag, perhaps a space?

Other than that it sounds like it might have been a bug. Let us know if you see it again.

Melchizadek ‭ wrote 16 days ago

trichoplax‭ hm ok fair enough maybe it was a glitch, oh well, either way so long as u got the right tags and frankly so long as I get some answers I'm satisfied

Monica Cellio‭ wrote 16 days ago

Everyone should be able to create tags here, but if you're typing them into that field on the post, you need to create them one at a time -- type a tag name, hit return (which finalizes that tag), then type the next one, etc. If you just type a bunch of words with spaces between them and then hit return, I'm not sure what happens but it's probably not what we wanted. Sorry that's confusing!

Melchizadek ‭ wrote 16 days ago

trichoplax‭ oh no I think I get it maybe that's another thing I did wrong, either way I appreciate your help and input it'll definitely help out in the future when making tags

trichoplax‭ wrote 15 days ago

Monica, I've now checked on the dev server and tags with spaces give a meaningful error message so maybe I guessed wrong with that. I'm out of ideas though.

Melchizadek ‭ wrote 15 days ago

Eh not like it matters either way I got the tag I need so everything's fine
