Ok, I'm willing to embarrass myself with a probably-wrong answer, because I'm enjoying trying to figure it out. I see a pattern, but I can't explain the entire sequence using it, so I'm clearly missing something.

The next number in the sequence is 109, and the one after that is 140.

Starting with 21, the values alternate between +31 and +13. But I don't know what to do with 0, 4, 8.

The interesting thing about this puzzle is that the given numbers are increasing and it seems reasonable to assume that the next number would be bigger than the last given number 96. BUT remarkably the next number is actually significantly less than 96. Please try again.

I was previously quite active in Puzzling Stack Exchange posting over 300 puzzles there but I got frustrated with their recent introduction of pop up ads. So I decided to give Codidact a try.

Thanks -- I figured it was wrong, since it doesn't account for those first numbers, but it's an interesting puzzle so I took a stab at it. I'll think more about it. And welcome to Codidact! I'm glad you and your puzzles are here. (I wasn't on Puzzling on SE; are there any conventions answerers should follow that aren't obvious? I used a spoiler block on instinct.)
