Incubator Q&A

Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

Food for thought Question

My fifth is an organ, it's revelatory,
My sixth from a slitherer telling its story.

My first lacks aspiration but's bringing it still,
You’re half way to working this out if you will.

My third and my fourth are together a horse,
My second’s a frame and my whole is a course.

My fifth is an organ, it's revelatory:

Spoiler!

An eye is an organ of the human body which reveals information about your surroundings. Eye sounds like the letter I (5th letter of answer).

My sixth from a slitherer telling its story:

Spoiler!

Lots of S’s in this clue. A snake slithers and can look like an S and makes a sound/story like hiSS (6th letter of answer).

My first lacks aspiration but's bringing it still:

Spoiler!

In some words, the letter H lacks aspiration. It is silent in words like “honor” (1st letter of answer).

My third and my fourth are together a horse:

Spoiler!

gee-gee, an archaic, colloquial, childish name for a horse gives GG (3rd and 4th letters of the answer).

My second’s a frame:

Spoiler!

A-frame is an architectural style of building, or more literally, “My second’s a” so the second letter of the answer is A.

Putting all of the above together we get:

Spoiler!

HAGGIS which is hinted at by the post’s title, FOOD for thought. And in a multi-course meal, HAGGIS could be one of the courses.

You got the correct letter anyway, but for background: My thinking with this was that the letter H is not aspirated when alone (the name of the letter is not aspirated), but it brings aspiration to the word.

At least where I grew up, children were chided for pronouncing the name of the letter H as "haitch" rather than "aitch". I would often hear people saying "there's no aitch in aitch".
