Incubator Q&A

Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

A good strategy is building the main power lines in a ring.

Suppose you have some power source, like the customs house connection or a power plant, and a single power transformer which will go to your neighborhood.

Build power lines in *two* directions out from the power source, and connect them both the transformer. This will create two redundant connections. Now, when you modify one connection, the other will still provide power, and you can do your construction without causing blackouts.

For larger cities, a good architecture is:

* Large outer ring of high voltage (HV) power line segments connecting power sources and switches, surrounding your city. Do not do construction on more than one segment at a time!
* More HV lines branching off the ring inwards, towards buildings.
* HV branches are terminated with a transformer.
* Medium voltage lines go from the transformers to medium switches or substations.
