Does feeding multiple luminous stones to each dondon produce better gems in TotK?

You can feed each dondon up to 5 stones, but it isn't clear to me if there is an advantage to doing so. I've gotten some gems from feeding them just one stone each, but they have mostly been flint and amber. If you feed them multiple luminous stones, do the dondons produce more gems are rarer gems such as rubies and diamonds?
