Incubator Q&A

Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

How are drugs portrayed in Cyberpunk, and how invasive on the gameplay experience do they feel? Question

I have previously played GTA V, but have since realized I would likely not be able to replay that game due to how uncomfortable the use of drugs in that game would make me feel. Cyberpunk obviously does feature a dystopian future where drugs most definitely will be featured, but are they are a common concept, and how are they framed?

The game is surprisingly comfortable despite featuring drugs as a common theme. The extent of drug variety, however, is not very large.

The game does not glorify drug use, except for a few minor instances of alcohol. For the most part, drugs are symbols of the dystopian universe, and an element of the atmosphere, more-so than an integral part of the story itself. It is pictured as a negative, not a positive, making their visit much more acceptable to players otherwise uncomfortable with them.

Alcohol will be served and offered to the player at several occasions in the game, but for the most part, the player can deny it. Accepting it will be required in a few missions, but it's minor. One side mission will combine drinking and shooting, but this is optional, in case you're fine with missing out on a special weapon.

Various types of alcohol are also an entity to be looted, and looting it to put it in the inventory, is mostly inevitable. However, alcohol only provides negative effects, and serves little purpose other than to be traded away for money. It is not a health item or booster, like in RDR2.

Pretty much every character in the game smokes cigarettes, with a few exceptions. On the other hand, it's not as often in your face. I had to turn my face away in disgust a few times, but it was manageable.

There is one television ad that tries to sell some sniffed drug, similar to cocaine. Quite honestly, it's more funny and hilarious than disturbing, and again reinforces the view of a sick society, and does not glorify its use.

Thus far, I have only found one mention of a smoked drug often wanted legalized in many countries today, and that was in the description for a car you can buy on the computer. It's hard to miss if you read the descriptions, but once you've read it, you'll know how to avoid it going further.

The player is offered an inhaler of some sort in one main mission, however, using it can be declined. The player still watches a side character (not a friend of yours), use it for a brief moment.
