Heuristic for identifying words that are valid Wordle solutions? Question
Sometimes after I solve a Wordle puzzle I'll see what their bot had to say about my solution. Occasionally one of my words is a legitimate five-letter word (accepted by Wordle) but the bot says something like "yes that's a word but it's unlikely given what we know". The bot has, and uses, perfect knowledge of the dictionary of possible solutions, while I do not. Is the bot just saying "that's not on the list", or is there some actual hueristic that I could use to eliminate those guesses?
Wordle must be using two word lists, with solutions being a subset of accepted words, for it to behave like this. Early in a puzzle I want to confirm or eliminate letters or their positions, so using a word that isn't a possible solution is not a concern. (I'm going for efficiency, not correctness.) Later in the puzzle I'd like to only use words that could be solutions. Is this something I can know, or is it just a matter of experience (getting a sense of what Wordle "likes")?
I was asked for an example in comments and finally have one:
At this point the bot says there are two remaining words, TODDY or BOOTY. Not having the bot's knowledge, my next guess was TOFFY, to which the bot said:
Your guess eliminated one of the two remaining words, but, despite being a valid guess, TOFFY isn’t a likely solution. Wordle typically uses more common words as solutions.
