Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

Unlisted Q&A category

Is there supposed to be an unlisted Q&A category? Since we already have the Incubator Q&A category this seems redundant. There are no posts there but I appear to have access to make a post there (which I'm avoiding doing).

It was pointed out in Discord that the category is listed on the Dashboard, which could cause confusion, especially as it shows a new activity indicator disc for anyone who has never visited the category.

The Q&A category was not always visible on the Dashboard. I found an old post Should we change the dashboard layout? that contains a screenshot from February 2024, and the Q&A category is not showing there.

Seems to have been fixed (1 comment)
That's a bug. I don't know what's causing it (and why now), but definitely not intentional. (3 comments)

Something changed (in April) with how data is seeded. We run seeds on every deploy to pick up additions (like new settings), but this has the unintended side-effect of creating the "Q&A" and "Meta" categories if they don't already exist. We deleted it in response to this post but then it just came back on the next update (sigh). I've filed a bug to track down the root cause, but as a workaround, I've configured this category to be visible to staff only (the most restrictive setting available), so it won't be in the way for anybody else.

I'm marking this status-complete because as far as all but about eight people are concerned, it's fixed. Behind the scenes we have some more work to do.
