Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

Comment Post #289920 I'm inclined to agree that the scope here seems far too narrow to make a sustainable site. A general Biology site seems more like it. For reference, Biology.SE is about the same size (in question count) as Japanese.SE.

Answer A: Is economics on topic for everyday science?
As I understand it, this sort of thing fits well with what I had in mind, yes. I had already intended that the site would include practical economics questions related to household finance; understanding why e.g. something at the supermarket is priced how it is, seems as relevant as anything to do wi...

Comment Post #289702 I have no particular attachment to any of the details I started out with; the idea is mostly off-the-cuff (although I can definitely see myself asking a few questions!). The above comments seem like about as strong a consensus as can be expected at this meta-community size, so I went ahead and rename...

Comment Post #289702 There's some value to that, I suppose. Perhaps trying to fit pure "home economics" style math questions under the same umbrella is a bridge too far as well. (There isn't an obvious reason I can see why Math wouldn't take them all anyway, as it stands; although they might have a different idea about h...

Comment Post #289702 By "Domestic" I meant "around the house". I agree that "Everyday" is clearer.

Comment Post #288796 Some candidates for naming such a category: *Zine* - calling to mind the street (maga)zine culture of times past. Especially if the community becomes more design-oriented, I can imagine this kind of "underground" cultural feeling. *News, views and reviews* - for the rhyme and to cover the vario...

Comment Post #289676 The main place where I see overlap with Software is in relation to questions about Git and Github. I think a division can be made that Software is about the technical side ("how do I make a pull request?") and OSS is about the social side ("why should I have a contributor covenant?").

Comment Post #289089 The leveraged ETF question seems salvageable and on-topic to me (and I'd be interested!) but it definitely needs to be written very differently.

Comment Post #288574 I agree it makes sense not to have objective metrics and that the goal should be to achieve consensus; but it isn't clear to me what the intended process is, for determining whether that consensus exists. Are we expecting someone to spontaneously post in the Meta section with "I think proposal X is r...
