Incubator Q&A

Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

A little riddle / Creative Challenge: Pressure Plates in a Dungeon Question

+0
−0

This is an initial post for the proposal of a new community: Creative Challenges.

Please feel free to answer here or post more questions in the spirit of this one. Do not restrict yourself on the form of the question. Just post a question! As you can see in the proposal, there are several "Specials" mentioned which will allow certain rules that are very much less strict than on "other" sites. There can also be more such categories. All we need are more posts! Don't be discouraged by the lack of it! Just join in on building something new!

Imagine Sir Kunibold, a knight and adventurer, enjoying his favorite hobby: Dungeon exploration!

He is a few levels deep into the lair of some ominous villain, as he enters a room finding a door he needs to open. But this is prevented by a mechanism involving two pressure plates.

  • He figures that the plates need to be pressed in the most synchronized fashion possible

  • Kunibold is alone and cannot recruit any other creatures or summon them

  • In the corners of the room are various piles of stuff to search and find things he needs to overcome this obstacle

What does Kunibold need to do in order to open the door?

Describe your blueprint, machinery or actions that Kunibold needs to perform.

  • You can come up with (almost) any items you need for your plans
  • Available items/materials must "typically" be found in a dungeon
  • You need to list all items with a numbered list
  • The less items you need to maximize the synchronized pressing, the better you have helped Kunibold!

Infos

  • Plates must be pressed at the same time not one after another
  • Pressure plates are 60x60 cm in size (2x2 ft), 3m apart (10ft)
  • Pressure plate's pressure needed to press is 10kg each (22lbs)
  • The door is magically, indestructible sealed and can only be passed if the plates are used to open it

(While voting is encouraged, this is just for fun, no contest)

Example: Jumping on a board

Items: 1 wooden board, 3m in length

Lay board across the pressure plates, then jump on it.

A small sketch showing the two pressure plates on the bottom 2m apart and then a larger board across them. A curled arrow indicates to jump on the board near the centerpoint.

Accuracy: Not amazingly accurate. Very dependent on the right spot to jump on.
