Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.
Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

I tried acrylic trays, which were very loud, and then a less rigid plastic tray, which is not as bad but still quite loud.
I feel there needs to be some kind of tray as otherwise the chance of 1 of the dice rolling off the table is high. Also, different dice are used each turn. The tray makes it m... (more) |

Question | — |
Quiet dice on a budget I'm designing a board game that involves rolling several dice simultaneously each turn (usually between 1 and 20), and in testing I found that this is surprisingly loud. I'm aiming to keep the game reasonably cheap to make, so my first thought was to try to find a material that is affordable, dura... (more) |

I hadn't thought of table tennis. Now that you mention it, it also brings to mind snooker/pool/billiards and the grey area surrounding them. There are games using dice but that are about rolling them to land in scoring zones rather than just which way up they land, and they can be used to knock rival... (more) |

Good idea. I'm probably not going to put time into a Meta question right now but anyone else could. (more) |

For anyone reading through this thread, my personal preference is now [Monica's answer](https://proposals.codidact.com/posts/288632/288681#answer-288681). (more) |

I understand not wanting questions on piracy that are asking how to circumvent a game's protections.
What about questions from a game developer about implementing piracy protections? These could be questions about the technicalities of implementing, or about the practicalities - cost/benefit analy... (more) |

Editing the description rather than the tag name does sound easier (both during the proposal stage and after migration). If you added that as an answer it would get my vote. (more) |

I'd also be happy if the community has a better idea. As long as we have something. (more) |

Being on topic in 2 places doesn't mean it has to be asked in both places. It also doesn't hurt if it is asked in both places.
The benefit of having separate communities for different subject areas is that voting and feedback from a narrower collection of experts is more useful, and answers will b... (more) |

A: Tag collision between proposals Definitely a problem I don't see this as a problem for filtering posts. If I filter by the proposal tag and the clashing tag, then I will only see posts with the clashing tag for that proposal, not the other proposal. Where I see more of a problem is when people want to add the tag wiki and the w... (more) |

Being on topic in another community doesn't necessarily make something off topic in this one - a few of the existing communities have overlaps. If you think that software development questions should be off topic here, it's worth raising that as a separate question to get a discussion going and see w... (more) |

I agree with both your points.
As for the proposed name "Web Developers", I wonder whether that would sound like only the code side of looking after a website. To me personally, "Webmasters" also sounds narrow - it would make me think of only the operations side and not the code side.
As the sc... (more) |

Question | — |
What should the "webmasters" site name and url be? When SE's webmasters community was just starting out, they had a [Meta discussion about what the site name should be]. Although they settled on "webmasters", some of the arguments given at the time may no longer apply today. For example, Bing still uses the term webmaster tools, but [Google appear... (more) |

I like this idea of users choosing which community they want an answer from, rather than a question having only one "correct" home.
Intuitively, I'd also expect it to be better to start a new community with a scope that is slightly too broad rather than slightly too narrow. My guess is that gradua... (more) |
