Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.
Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

Data integrity may be an issue if a required tag is deleted, since posts that use that tag won't have it anymore, causing them to have zero required tags.
IIRC, this has been tested before and found to not visibly break things since I believe the requirement is only checked at submission, but it's... (more) |

Not saying this is a bad idea, but it will put a load on the admin team because adding a tag to the required tag set requires admin permissions.
Secondly, it poses a UI problem ([image](https://proposals.codidact.com/uploads/kvh7qxylwuc3ib00zqrjpiy4pzcl)). The list of required tags will likely onl... (more) |

That makes sense - I think there those areas are significantly different enough that it wouldn't make sense to include in this scope. (more) |

By disallowing legal advice, I was mostly trying to avoid similar issues to the Law proposal, but I do see how it would be impractical to forbid questions about licenses etc. (which is why "Questions about licensing" is included under the topics). If you can think of some way to clarify the scope so ... (more) |

This proposal wouldn't include anything related to actual code, which is why I hadn't thought about that overlap. Meanwhile, you wouldn't ask questions about the open-source movement on Software such "How do the FSF's and OSI's definitions of open-source and free software differ". (more) |

I'm actually kind of curious about how the term is used more widely; if it's similar to how it's used in software development, then there might be a case made to include it in the scope (more) |

We don't really have a bot API (or any API) so that would go through some hoops to function. As for where to get a good repository of acronyms, I was inspired by the [recent Meta post](https://meta.codidact.com/posts/289367) (more) |

This is an oddball idea, but we could make something similar to Judaism's Sefaria linker to automatically detect a curated list of abbreviations and display a description of the abbreviation on hover or something. (more) |

> Create tags for each acronym, like oriented-strand-board. Ensure the tag mentions both the full name, the acronym (I'm assuming typing osb can be made to still suggest oriented-strand-board) and an appropriate reference site like the wikipedia page.

At least one of them, I remember, was explicitly soliciting bad financial advice. I remember it said something like "I know that everyone says not to do it, but play devils advocate. An answer must explicitly extol the virtues of (aforementioned bad financial decision) in order to be accepted"
It... (more) |

The old proposals used tags for stuff like "needs people", "needs scope", etc., which we could use here (I'm actually not sure why the system was dropped) (more) |

Add article type posts to the incubator The recent Tabletop Games proposal proposes a Game Review/Blog category for non-Q&A-format posts. Could we add article posts to the Incubator to test this idea out? (more) |

Question | — |
Tsumogiri vs Tedashi when drawing a duplicate When discarding a drawn tile that already exists in your hand, is it better to discard the draw (tsumogiri) or discard from hand (tedashi)? Assuming that you're not planning to riichi (open hand or dama), my first thought would be that discarding from hand presumably lowers suspicion of tenpai. Ho... (more) |

What does suji mean? In riichi mahjong, the term suji is often thrown around when deciding what tiles to discard. What is suji, and how does it factor into mahjong strategy? (more) |

We're perfectly capable of searching based off of multiple tags - we could just search for "Video-Games" + "base" if we needed to disambiguate. (more) |

I'm not sure why they would? It's not like we're deleting tags. All the chemistry questions would still be correctly tagged. (more) |

Answer | — |
A: How many tags should incubator Q/A questions get? I think it is useful to add in tags that the question might actually have on the community when launched. It makes a more realistic "sandbox", which means that we start to figure out how we want to organize tags, and what tags we find useful and not for the proposed community. For instance, Softwa... Should we replicate proposals from Site Proposals? There are a couple proposals in Site Proposals that haven't been launched. Should we re-create them here on this new community, or should we avoid duplicating the content and just link questions here back to the original proposal? (more) |
