Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.

Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

Answer A: What should the "webmasters" site name and url be?
Web Builders would make a decent name with `web.codidact.com` as the URL. It's more modern that "Webmasters" and covers more of the site scope than "Web Developers."

Answer A: What should the "webmasters" site name and url be?
I'm recommending sticking with Webmasters as the name with `webmasters.codidact.com` as the URL. It is the shortest and most succinct way to encompass the entire scope of the site. The problem with "webmasters" is that it is outdated terminology. 20 to 25 years ago it was an actual job title. Co...

Meta issue: https://meta.codidact.com/posts/288441 I uploaded an image into this question: How accurate are the browser usage statistics at caniuse.com? However it isn't showing up. When I uploaded it created the URL `https://proposals.codidact.com/uploads/teqvdp0qxce3zm8ic42k9aod6ujb` whe...

Question How accurate are the browser usage statistics at caniuse.com?
I want to exclusively use webp images on my website. I haven't used a browser that doesn't support them in years. However caniuse.com reports that over 3% of users globally can't load them. ![webp browser support stats from caniuse.com showing 96.63% of users can view webp images](https://prop...

Question How do I set up DNS records for home hosting?
I've been hosting my website on shared hosting, but I'm tired of paying their monthly fee. I want to move my website to my home computer. How do I need to configure my DNS records to make that happen? Currently my `NS` records at my registrar point to the DNS servers for my web host and they han...

clearer mobile app off-topic examples

Comment Post #288368 Something like that. Google Analytics is available for all Android apps regardless of whether they are built as an embedded web app. Questions about Google Analytics for your website would be on-topic, but questions about Google Analytics for your mobile app would not.

Question Loosen quality standards without losing our power users
Our website relies heavily on user generated content and power users that edit, curate, and moderate that content. Recently the amount of content contributed to our site has taken a nose dive. Looking at the data, we're finding that a significant portion of our new content is getting deleted by o...

Question Split articles into multiple pages to improve bounce rate?
My website has long articles. Many users click to a single article, read it, and leave our site. I want more of these users to engage more with our site. I have Google Analytics installed and I'm using its bounce rate metric to measure this engagement. One idea we've had is to split long article...

Question Is fresh content always needed for SEO?
I've seen recommendations that search engines like "fresh" content and that I should be continually launching new content on my website for SEO. Is that always the case? That seems to directly contradict other SEO advice I've seen that says that search engines like "evergreen" content. Does it...

Question Can I use a domain name I already own with my AWS-hosted website?

Question Can I redirect node/1 to my home page in Drupal?
In Drupal, I've configured my home page to be served from `/node/1` as recommended in Setting up your home page | Drupal.org. However `https://mysite.example/node/1` shows the exact same content as the home page. Is there a way to redirect that URL to `https://mysite.example/`? I want to avoid...

Question Is wordpress.com the official hosting site for the WordPress content management system?
I've been told that I should get a WordPress website. Looking into it, there is an open-source content management system available from wordpress.org and hosting available for it from wordpress.com. However, there are also a lot of other hosting providers that will install WordPress. The wordpress....

Question Is digest authentication more secure than basic authentication over HTTPS?
Apache has modules for both digest authentication and basic authentication. I've seen recommendations to use digest authentication because it doesn't send the password in clear text. However, if my site is HTTPS, aren't all the headers including the ones for basic authentication encrypted anyway?...

Question How do I implement a redirect in JavaScript
My web host only lets me upload static files. They don't support `.htaccess` or dynamic scripting. As such, I can't implement 301 redirects between pages. I should be able to put some JavaScript in a static HTML page to redirect the user to another page. How would I do that?

Question How do I choose a priority for each URL in my XML sitemap?
