Welcome to the staging ground for new communities! Each proposal has a description in the "Descriptions" category and a body of questions and answers in "Incubator Q&A". You can ask questions (and get answers, we hope!) right away, and start new proposals.
Are you here to participate in a specific proposal? Click on the proposal tag (with the dark outline) to see only posts about that proposal and not all of the others that are in progress. Tags are at the bottom of each post.

Not an answer but maybe a starting point: I've seen wood crafts that were finished with (linseed?) oil, not polyurethane. Oil of course has a scent too and I don't know if there are oils that are both effective and non-interfering, but maybe this is a starting point for research? (more) |

Thanks. I agree with what you've written here. (In case anyone's wondering, I asked my question after you posted the proposal and before the edit that expanded and clarified it.)
For organization, I was thinking about things like closets, pantries, and seasonal storage, not about "personal" orga... (more) |

Question | — |
Home Improvement versus a more general "home stuff" community? Would the proposed Home Improvement community be open to questions about "house stuff" more broadly? I have in mind not just home improvement, but household operations more generally. I'd been considering proposing "Home and Garden" but was trying to come up with a better name. I'd like to be ab... Question | — |
Do you play with all the cards in a two-player game of Splendor? I'm used to four-player games of Splendor, with high competition for the cheap, engine-building cards in tier 1. I've now played a couple of two-player games, and with cards much more plentiful, the feel of the game is very different. Both of us ended up with more cards than we're used to, and "clu... (more) |

Question | — |
Are blue eggs special in Wingspan? I played Wingspan at a convention recently and then bought a copy of the game. When unpacking it, I noticed that there was a large bag of mixed egg tokens and a smaller bag containing only blue egg tokens. In the convention game I played, all the eggs were mixed together and color didn't matter. T... (more) |

Oh wow, you're right. There are also tabletop shuffleboard-style games. This sounds like a job for Meta. :-)

This question is a test of scoping "recommendation-style" questions. It feels answerable (in our format) to me, though it was closed for being a recommendation question somewhere else. (more) |

Question | — |
How can I quickly introduce players to the crayon rail games? I like the crayon rail games. I've played a lot of Iron Dragon, some EuroRails, and a smattering of others. I'd like to introduce acquaintances who aren't already experienced gamers to this category of game. But these games are rather longer than most gateway games.[^1] At an hour per player (on... Thanks @#61308! I'm happy to make adjustments as we get more experience with it -- something is better than nothing, and if we can make something even better, let's do that. (more) |

A: Provide a template for proposals? I've added a template to the help, linked from both the "how to propose a community" help topic and the posting guidance when you start a proposal post. We don't yet have a way to pre-populate the editor (like GitHub does), so it's still a manual process, but I hope "follow link, select the stuff in... (more) |

Template for Proposal Posts You can use the following template for proposal posts -- copy and paste the contents of the code block into the editor after starting a proposal post. ```md Community Name (name) Description (a sentence or two about what the site is for) Topics Topics covered would include: - ..... A: Tag collision between proposals Or maybe share the tag description? If a tag has overlap, use sections labeled by proposal. This avoids the cognitive load of mixing in the proposal name only on some tags. When a community launches, people would need to edit the description on the new site but wouldn't need to rename anything. (C... (more) |

A: How to tell that a proposal is ready for launch? Incubator Q&A is meant to be the same as it would be on the launched site -- ask real questions, write real answers, discuss scope questions on Meta. When a community launches, it will take its incubated Q&A with it -- so that should be real, not proxies. One of the effects of trying out a propos... (more) |

Thanks. I noticed this problem _just_ before going offline for Shabbat and dropped a note into the project chat, but didn't have time to do more. I don't yet know what happened here -- did somebody add a second tag differing only in capitalization and we have a mix of case-sensitive and case-insens... (more) |

Oh, it's not a cutting line -- I read too much into your question, sorry. I don't have experience with a way that doesn't leave at least a small mark; I never experimented with tape, for instance. In that case the other answer is better than mine. (more) |

A: How do I draw a perfect circle on a square of plywood? When I needed to cut a 4' circle out of the middle of a sheet of plywood, I fabricated a compass by tying a long-enough piece of non-stretchy string to a tack or finishing nail -- I forget which, but it was something small enough that it wouldn't leave a mark on the other side of the plywood. To t... (more) |
